When traveling anywhere, I really don’t need any “souvenirs” like magnets, postcards etc. I need to share the flavor of where I have been. I think having friends over for a meal of new flavors is so much more interesting than showing them fotos of where you have been. I remember sitting way too long in dark rooms seeing slide shows and trying to stay awake.
Cooking and sharing a meal is a sign of love.
Some of my favorite recipes are the simpliest homestyle cooking. Nothing fancy, things you can recreate easily, but that bring joy in every bite.
These little “polpette” are made from the leftover bread. I first had them when visiting a favorite ceramic artists in Rutigliano. His wife was cooking for a visit from the grandkids and instead she offered them to us! There always seems to be enough food in Italy for people just popping in!
They can be served like this or in a light tomato sauce, making them a main course.
Puglia is really one of the breadbaskets of Italy. The fruits and vegetables are so flavorful as well. I adore the tiny farm shops everywhere. You will see cars and trucks everywhere with their produce.
The coastal villages are so beautiful, Polignano is a favorite walled in city.
I always adore stopping at a port and then visiting the fish market as well.
Put Puglia on your list of places to go. Do try to stay with someone on your holiday or book a cooking class tour to really understand what is in season and available and lear a few dishes to share with your friends!
Recipes are behind the paywall for the members.
Focaccia Pugliese, Pasticciotto,Tiella, Bombette and Fave and Cicoria are the recipes this month.
Next month I will take you to Venice with me! My Aunt Ray, lived there for 35 years. who knew I would live here longer already!! Next year is 40 years for me, of course, I moved here younger and with nothing, she as a widow at 50 years old.
For more about my story, I will be sharing that next year in my memoir.
