I just returned from a tour to Sicily doing a coast to coast starting in Palermo and ending in Catania. It is such a long way to come, you might as well make the most of the airline ticket and travel time and see as much as possible.

I am including my Thatch guide to Palermo for the paid subscribers to my newsletter( a 15 euro value). I will always be adding to the guide as each trip I try to visit something new.
