My market guide and some favorite places.

I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. The one thing I miss having spent the past 39 years living in Florence and the countryside is that I am too far from the sea.

Livorno is on the West Coast and easy to get to by train from Florence. Besides the large city,there is an American base there for the air force, and not too far from the Pisa airport.

My favorite part of Livorno is the part called “Venezia”- Venice.This part of town is at the port and actually small island with canals to get around, sorry no gondolas but you can take a boat tour.

The market is fabulous and seafood galore.

What’s not to love? They sell both fresh raw fish and also some prepared foods you can buy and picnic or take to your rental.
