Saint Anthony the Abbot

January 17th is San Antonio Abate, the Abbot. He is patron saint of animals and often depicted with a pig at his feet. This is also when farmers slaughter the pigs and make the prosciutto, salami and other pork products.

I attended the blessing of the animals in a local village.
